The Pinatubo caldera is majestic. Its a breathtakingly delightful sensory overload of an experience!! It’s really a lot to take in when you first see it! Oh boy does the landscape reward you handsomely after an exhausting trek (well at least for me and my fat arse). The contrast between the ash-laden peaks of the crater and blue-green lake is something you don’t get to see everyday. Standing there, I cant begin to fathom the power of Mt. Pinatubo when it erupted back in 1991.
Getting there was equally fun too: we had to go through a one hour drive across rugged terrain on a 4×4, then hike three hours across barren hills, stony rivers & lahar flows. When I finally got to the top, I inhaled the mountain breeze.. wiped my sweaty brow.. popped a can of Pringles.. and smiled like an idiot. DAMN WORTH IT.
